Microsoft Ads - You Find It, You Get It

This may not come as a surprise to people but the "Laptop Hunters" Microsoft ads really irritate me: and the latest one featuring Giampaolo, who is self confessedly "tech savvy", shopping for a performance laptop is the most annoying of all.

First he picks up the Unibody Mac which he describes as "so sexy" then puts it down complaining about wanting not to pay for the brand and focussing on performance.

So he eventually finds an HP which Microsoft buys for him: but the catch is that it is hugely heavy (7.3lbs), with a hopeless screen (res of 1366 x 768 in 16"), slower memory architecture and a very low-to-mid processor of 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo.

The whole comparison is well put here by AppleInsider.

It's all so messy: and so odd in a way that the boxes have to be sold by the OS company yet the proliferation of hardware specs, prices, poor salesmanship and everything else, over which the OS company has no control, time and again get in the way. Essentially Microsoft now has to promote lame equipment like the aforementioned HP (which is not a hardware that commands any respect for design or engineering) just in order to assert the advantages of the one thing they do control: the OS.

And we know that the OS sucks too right now. Ouch. Bad position to be in.
